Let’s Make a Deal: Coupons Generate Business

July 22, 2011

Every time a new business opens its doors, there are always deals and
coupons to get people interested. It doesn’t matter if it’s clothing, furniture
or a new restaurant; there’s bound to be a “grand opening” deal to entice
shoppers to walk in and browse the selection. Chances are the right deal will
ensure they don’t leave the store empty handed.

The same is true of online courses. Content creators can create
coupons and offer deals on coursework in order to generate interest. Maybe
you’ve got a series of courses that haven’t been moving, or you’re new on the
scene and you want to make an impact. Offering a coupon will generate some
interest, especially if it’s a training course that’s a bit more expensive, or
it contains time sensitive material that has a limited shelf life.

Coggno offers all its content creators the ability to
offer discounts on their materials. Remember: we’re always looking for great
deals on everything.

Broaden Your Corporate Horizons by Adding Foreign Languages to your Learning Management System

June 24, 2011

Corporations that operate in different countries can now offer learning opportunities to their employees in their native languages. Coggno has recently added Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and German capabilities to their learning management system catalog, so employees can learn what they need to know in their native languages.

It doesn’t matter where in the world you are; as long as you have a high speed Internet connection, you can download materials for skills training, certification and continuing education courses in the language you feel comfortable working in.

It is critical to have quality courses available to employees who are asked to partake in online training. Having a learning management system in place that provides these tools in languages other than English can motivate employees and improve their performance. This is especially important for bilingual individuals who feel comfortable speaking English, but would rather learn in their mother tongue.

Metatextual Online Education: What’s it all about?

April 28, 2011

Metatextuality. What is it, and how does it fit into your online education development?

Whether it’s a textbook, a learning platform, an online course, or a news article, if a text is online, more and more these days it is constantly making reference to other texts. In this text, for example, I can make reference to a blog posting in which I talk about how to make your online education content metatextual.

Metatextuality is a kind of intertextual style of discourse where content refers to and makes critical commentary of other content.

If your information has it, you are entering the world of the average online learner: one which is dynamic and constantly engaged in conversation with other information.

Webinars and LMS Training: An Exciting and Cost-effective Combination

April 14, 2011

You might fancy the idea of saving resources and money for your organization by hosting

webinars and LMS online training. But how do you go about it?

There are many avenues available in implementing online training and hosting your own training webinars. You can host training via a learning management system (LMS), providing learners with a common space for building their skills and knowledge as well as interacting with each other.

LMS training offers a variety of benefits including cost-effectiveness and a range of customization options. You can design your own training or choose pre-packaged and specific online training for your needs. In designing your own LMS training, you have the freedom to create and incorporate your own learning material, quizzes, videos, and audio and podcast features.

In addition or as an alternative to LMS online training, webinars are an exciting way to deliver training to participants. When choosing a webinar service, make sure you choose one you cantrust. Do a test drive. Participants should be able to log in easily and have easy access. For many people, it might be their first time attending a webinar. Complex instructions on how to attend the webinar will deter participants and prevent the success of your event, and possibly the entire training effort.

How to Broach the Topic of Online Training to your Boss

March 31, 2011

Recently I wrote about asking your employer for more training, an extra online LMS course, or a raise. I talked about how women are statistically less likely to approach their bosses about a raise, and when they do so, they are viewed more negatively than when men do the same thing. But whether you’re a man or a woman who has hesitated about requesting funds for work-related education, you might be unsure about how to go about broaching the subject to your boss.

In this dog-eat-dog world, I think it’s an apt metaphor to think of your boss as your master and you as–if you will–his dog. If you can condescend to consider yourself as such for a moment, let’s imagine you want your master to throw you a bone. The bone represents a raise, an LMS online course, or any other such request. How do you get him to do throw it to you? He’s reading the paper; he’s watching a football game; he’s on his phone. He’s a busy man. The bone might not even be in his line of vision. Maybe it’s under the blue sofa, well within your own line of sight. In any case, think about it. What are the odds that he is going to take notice of your lingering around the blue sofa, immediately understand your wishes, and stoop down to scoop it out for you? Slim to none. What’s the solution?

Learning isn’t its Own Reward

March 3, 2011

How can LMS course creators or educators design material that includes repetition without losing students’ interest?

Learning, after all, is seldom its own reward. Even if you’ve put together the most exciting and intellectually stimulating LMS course ever made, the point of taking your course is the new skill or knowledge hoped to be gained—not the joy of learning in itself. Both children and adults learn for different motivations—children for stickers and shining report cards, and adults for the practical new skill that they’ll be obtaining. So the best way to include repetition is to create acjtivities and learning sessions which allow students to immediately put into hands-on practice what they’ve learned.

The more repetition/practice your course includes, the more confidence students gain, not only in their own abilities, but in the ability of the course to effectively weave in repetition that enables them to climb the skill ladder.

Don’t Lament, Repent: Incorporating Repetition in LMS Classrooms

February 17, 2011

Blended learning techniques involving audio and visual tools are an absolute must. A learning management system (LMS) is one big tool that offers many possibilities for educators and subject matter experts interested in designing a dynamic course that caters to our tech-savvy youth.

However, even if you don’t use an LMS or incorporate online learning into your classroom, you can still tap into the audio and visual pedagogical tools on your own. Make a podcast that students can listen to on their ride home, or on their way to work. Create a video of your classroom, encouraging students to participate.

There are many ways, using an LMS or not, to adapt to the digital generation’s ways, rather than simply lamenting them.

Flexible Web Design Courses

February 3, 2011

Ever considered an introductory web design class hosted on an LMS platform? Designing your own beautiful website may be the first step to reaching your organizational goals and cutting out large costs.

LMS web design courses often have no specific meeting time, which allow learners to attend class according to their own free time. However, combined with a threaded forum format, interaction with other participants and online support are still possible.

Some online courses include online classrooms, which include threaded messaging systems through which students may interact with each other.  Each class, instructors post lectures and reading material, as well as hands-on activities such as simulations and web design practice tasks for students to complete on their own. If you run into problems, the discussion forums are a great space for discussing topics, beyond communication with the instructor.

Questions and Answers with LMS Performance Appraisal Training

December 9, 2010

Performance appraisal training can help answer questions about many topics, from the more general down to the particulars.

These questions include: As a manager, how can I create, monitor and track employee development plans? What is the best method of evaluating performance and rating employees? How do I remain objective during the appraisal? How can I deal with non-performers and employees who do not cooperate? What are the techniques for setting goals? How do I respond to different employee reactions to the appraisal? How can you structure the appraisal to focus on improving performance?

Part of a good performance appraisal strategy is development planning, where managers and employees work together to create an individual development plan, which is later monitored for effectiveness.

LMS training means you’ll be not only be prepared for performance appraisals, but you will have the know-how to establish an effective and ongoing performance appraisal strategy, which is year-long as opposed to once or twice and year.

Before you perform appraisals this month, invest in online training. Get educated on the standards for performance documentation, improving rapport and communication, building employee morale, motivating employees, and observing and measuring performance. At this time next year you’ll be happy you did.

Developing People Through Work

October 31, 2010

As a manager, you might feel you know and understand your employees because of the daily interactions you have with them. Perhaps you share lunch with employees, borrow a stapler, or chat while getting coffee in the office. However, how much time do you dedicate to real feedback and open dialogue which nurtures a sense of trust? The most important thing to remember about good management is that it is a skill, not a natural talent that managers either have or don’t. It involves creating a two-way relationship with each employee, based on trust and mutual respect–which are cultivated not with charm but with simple methods you can easily implement.

On the other hand, you may be struggling to effectively manage your outsourcing strategy. Oftentimes organizations jump into outsourcing without first familiarizing management with ORM strategies. LMS courses in performance management and ORM can prevent failure before it starts to manifest itself.

Coggno is now offering a free trial for performance review training creators on its learning management system. Create an online course for free, whether it be for internal use, for inclusion in Coggno’s E-learning Marketplace, or for outside syndication on hundreds of websites.
